DEAR FRIENDS, WELCOME TO THE 23rd EDITION OF TIFF 2025!

Tirana International Film Festival is the most important cinematographic event that takes place in Albania and one of the most important in Europe, because of the yearly thousands of submissions, the selectivity of the films, the rich program, the fascinating discoveries and premieres of the most important recent cinematic films in the world.

For all the reasons mentioned, Tirana International Film Festival is accredited as a qualifying festival by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the European Film Academy to be nominated for the Best Short Film, which will be eligible for the Oscar® Awards and the Best European Short Film for the European Film Awards. The officially selected Student films at TIFF are eligible to compete and apply for the Student Academy Awards® (SAA).

This recognition ranks TIFF among the 94 most prestigious film festivals on the planet and among 28 most important film festivals in Europe, such as: Venice, Cannes, Toronto, Berlin, Sundance and many others.

The Submissions’ Call is open for the 23rd edition of TIFF 2025, which will be held on September 21-27, 2025. The Regular Deadline is May 21, 2025. The directors, producers and distributors are invited to submit their films, to be released in 2024-2025, through the FilmFreeway online platform.

The Daily Program of TIFF combines more than 200 premieres of feature and short films in competition in all running times, formats, genres, topics, style and production technologies in the following categories: Fiction/Live Action, Animation, Documentary, Experimental and Video Art. Open to any filmmaker from over 120 countries around the world, TIFF showcases new cinematic work by established directors with international reputations as well as movies by talented students and young artists.

COMPETITION PROGRAM:

FULL LENGTH FILMS: Feature films; PerspecTIFF (debut feature films); Documentary; Made In ALBANIAn.

SHORT FILMS: Fiction/Live Action (Oscar® & European Film Awards qualifying), Animation (Oscar® & European Film Awards qualifying); Documentary (European Film Awards qualifying); Video Art & Experimental (European Film Awards qualifying); Student films (all genres) (Academy Awards® qualifying); Balkan Films (all genres); In Albanian (all genres).

PANORAMA has some thematic sections dedicated to the most sensitive social topics and problematic social groups as for children, women, immigration, integration of persons with disabilities, LGBTs, etc. with those sections: KIDs; TEENs, GENERATIONs; New World; Divergent Minds; PARADE and AI Program.

SCREENPLAY ContesTIFF: Consists in the application of original live-action and animated short film scripts and other short form scripts of all genres (max. 20 pages).

Five international juries comprised of leading film writers, directors, producers, distributors and critics will evaluate and then select the best films and scripts with awards presented on the Awards Ceremony. For more information, please look at Festival Description TIFF’s website.

TIFF will continue to devote a large space to the special program KIDs & TEENs, an exclusive program for children from 5-15 age average. This initiative comes as a long-term investment to raise and educate future cinematic audiences with artistic films through acquired projects in Creative Europe for the distribution and promotion of European films.
