He studied computer engineering at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria . 1 In 1996, his film Fotos won the awards for best script and the special jury prize at the Sitges Film Festival , 2 premiering in theaters that year with Quentin Tarantino 's criticism at the aforementioned festival: "Fucking good. Perverted, funny and sexy" as a promotional slogan, by Filmax , co-producer of the film. Ten years later she directs her next feature film, The Cold Hour , 3 starring Silkeand Julio Perillán , which is sold to 20 territories through Lightning Entertainment , including China, Brazil, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Russia, Taiwan and Thailand, and in 2009 their third feature film, No-Do , starring 4 , is released. by Ana Torrent , sold to 25 territories around the world, including the USA, China, Japan, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Malaysia, Korea and Mexico. In 2019 he released his fifth feature film, The Pekingese Strategy , an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Alexis Ravelo , winner of the Hammett Prize at the Semana Negra de Gijón in 2014, and starring Kira Miró , Unax Ugalde , Jorge Bosch , Enrique Alcides , Pep Jové and Ismael Fritschi . He was a founding member of the experimental music collective QUAXAR, then DUE , between 1986 and 1992, and made experimental works from then on under the pseudonym MIASMA, which led him to the world of experimental video and multimedia. He also holds exhibitions of video art and painting. He was nominated for the Goya Award for Best Documentary Short in 2004 for El Última Minutero , which was also selected in the Official Documentary Section of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival , a section to which he returned the following year with the short documentary Uwe , about the painter Uwe Grumann . In 2005 he adapted Stephen King in the animated short Home Delivery , presented by Guillermo del Toro , winner of the Best Short Film at Fantasporto and chosen for competition in the Official Sections of a hundred international festivals. In 2009 he made the animated short My name is María, which is shortlisted for the 2011 Oscars . In 2015 he made Black Sirena , a short film that adapts the work of the same name by Vanessa Montfort , within the project Children of Mary Shelley , coordinated by Fernando Marías . The short film won the Best Film Award at the Noida International Film Festival and the Best Actress Award at the Bombay International Short Film Festival. Since 2008 he has been represented by William Morris Endeavor and Kleinberg Lange Cuddy & Carlo LLP. In Spain he is represented by Alsira García Maroto as director and screenwriter and by Alicia González Sterling as writer. He has been considered in Hollywood as a director for projects as diverse as World War Z , Shark Night 3D , Pan , the remake of The Osterman Weekend ( Clave Omega ) by Sam Peckinpah , Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman, Passengers , or the film adaptation of the comic Grendel , created by Matt Wagner. He has also worked on Hungry Ghost , an adaptation of the science fiction novel Chinese Opera by New Zealand writer Ian Wedde . He also works as a script analyst and script doctor . He has published several books, such as Mar de Hombres , Ática , El Ángel del Yermo , or La Materia de los Sueños , which was awarded the Second Prize for the 2003 Everis Essay Prize . 6 In 2012 he published his first novel, El Despertar , edited by Timun Mas, which will be followed by Los Códices del Apocalipsis (Tyrannosaurus Books) and Idyll (Dolmen Editorial). In 2014 he created the popular science series Science Gossip , together with Luis Sánchez-Gijón . The series is the first Canarian production nominated for the Rockie Awards at the BANFF World Media Festival . In 2015 he received the Minotauro Prize for Novel 7 for Los que sueñan . In 2018 he published the thriller Entre los Sueños , with Ediciones B. That same year she was a finalist for the XXIII Fernando Lara Novel Prize for the work Children of the Sun. In 2019 he released The Pekingese Strategy , a feature film that adapts the novel of the same title by Alexis Ravelo, starring Unax Ugalde, Kira Miró and Jorge Bosch. In 2021 he receives the National Police Novel Award for Dirty Time .
