A huge blackout has plunged Cuba into darkness. In the streets, the inhabitants try to escape the gloom while the bonfires seem to announce the end of an era. Taking refuge inside our house, my mother tells me about a vision that has been tormenting her for years.

DIRECTOR BIOGRAPHY - Alejandro Alonso
Alejandro ALONSO ESTRELLA (1987, Cuba) Graduated in Documentary Filmmaking from EICTV, Cuba. His short film La despedida (2014) had its world premiere at IDFA. Duelo (2016) premiered at Cinema du Réel; it won the Best Short Film award at the Mar del Plata Film Festival and the Popoli Festival. His first feature film El proyecto (2017) premiered at Visions du Réel and was awarded the FIPRESCI Prize at DOK Leipzig. His medium-length film Terranova (2020), co-directed with Alejandro Pérez, won the Ammodo Tiger Short Award at the Rotterdam Film Festival. Abyssal (2021), premiered at Visions du Réel, won the Audience Award at Documenta Madrid, won the Golden Dove Dok Leipzig, and received the JHF Humanities Institute Award at Full Frame. In 2021, he was selected as a Resident of the Spanish Film Academy to work on the writing of La Estrella.
