The desktop video essay “getty abortions” examines how German and Austrian media illustrate the topic of abortion, browsing through stock photo databases, teen magazines and personal documents of a real abortion experience.
DIRECTOR BIOGRAPHY - Franzis Kabisch
Franzis Kabisch is a filmmaker, artistic researcher, and writer, based in Berlin and Vienna. Her projects focus on topics such as body politics, queer desire and reproductive justice. For the last years, she has been researching the depictions of abortion in films and television and is working on a feature-length documentary using found footage from the 1990s until today. She is a PhD candidate at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and a guest researcher at the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF. For her work, she has received numerous awards, for example the Golden Dove at DOK Leipzig, the Cathrin Pichler Prize or the BKA Startstipendium Filmkunst. Next to her artistic work, she teaches at universities, gives workshops and writes for Missy Magazine.
