Geranium

Just before her final exams, 19 years old Defne, has to return to her hometown after her father's stroke. His rehabilitation sessions will give the pair a chance to heal their fragile relationship. Slowly drawn into a family drama in this Mediterranean town, she witnesses her aunt's suicide by unprescribed pills she has provided. After the suicide, a jurisdiction process starts about the pills. Buried under her guilty conscience, she slowly finds herself losing her innocence and questioning her own notion of justice.

DIRECTOR BIOGRAPHY​ - Çağil Bocut

After his graduation from Boğaziçi University, Cagil Bocut completed his MA studies on Film Production at London Kingston University. His first documentary focusing on a British musician, Terry St.Clair, was broadcasted on Britain's Channel 4. Afterwards he has finished his PhD on Cinema & Television at Marmara University in 2019. Cagil established the Digital Film & Animation department at SAE Institute Istanbul, part of the world's leading educator in creative media industries, where he would continue his career as Head Instructor between 2010-2013, and give lectures on History of Turkish Cinema & World Cinema, Visual Narrative, Screenwriting, Production and History of Animation. In 2021 he wrote and directed his first debut Geranium. The film was supported by German-Turkish Co-Development Fund, Medienboard Berlin- Brandenburg and Turkish Ministry of Culture. Geranium was selected for Cinephilia Bound Cannes, Meetings on the Bridge, First Cut Lab and also it was awarded as Best WIP Award at Connecting Cottbus. The film won, best debut award in Cottbus Film Festival. Moreover, it also won best actress, best cinematography and best debut award in Istanbul Film Festival and best debut in Ankara Film Festival as well.
