DIRECTOR BIOGRAPHY - Mark Middlewick
Mark Middlewick is a filmmaker from South Africa. Mark graduated with Honours in Dramatic Art from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. After completing his studies he taught screenwriting and film theory before traveling to Los Angeles where he worked as a script reader. His breakout short film ‘Security’, made in association with Focus Features, screened at numerous film festivals around the world, while his short film ‘The Mascot’ starred Oscar award-winning actor Adrien Brody, and was produced by Kevin Spacey. Soon after Mark was selected as one of the Mail & Guardian's ‘200 Young South Africans’. Mark has participated in the Berlinale Talents Program and subsequently acted as a mentor for the short film lab at Talents Durban (as part of Berlinale Talents). Mark is a celebrated music video director. His video ‘Fog’, for SAMA award-winning musician Nakhane, was nominated for the ‘Most Beautiful Object In South Africa’ art award at the International Design Indaba. Mark is also an international commercials director, having worked with brands such as HSBC, Facebook and IKEA.
