Belonging

After being raised in the USA, 22 year old Mikel is suddenly deported back to Albania. Struggling with his new reality, he tries to find a way out. An ocean apart, his eleven year old American born sister Angela, is left behind and must decide to stay or join her brother. While discovering where they belong, both find something unexpected.

Albanian/American filmmaker born in 1990 and currently resides in New York. He began his filmmaking career at NFL Films, where he worked on numerous sports documentaries that aired on HBO & ESPN. He made his feature directorial debut with “Triumph”. The film premiered at the Warsaw Film Festival and won the audience award at Dokufest Film Festival. “Belonging" is his second feature documentary and is supported by the Icelandic Film Center. The film has screened at Thessaloniki, Reyjkjavik, Nordisk Panorama and Dokufest.Director, screenwriter, and editor from Iceland. Born in 1972, he started as a writer/director of short films that gained massive attention in Iceland. Saevar's directorial debut in feature films came with "Fruit Basket" in 2012, which won the prestigious Best Film for Young Audience award in Iceland. In 2016 He ventured into producing and directing his first feature documentary, "Inside a Volcano" which premiered at Warsaw Film Festival. The documentary, highlighting the Icelandic football team, garnered multiple awards, including the EDDAN for Best Documentary in Iceland and recognition at various international film festivals. His latest work “Storm”, is a mindblowing story telling on Covid-19 in Iceland, debuted as an eight part docu-series in the spring 2023.
