Hidden in a dark sewer pipe beneath a ruined besieged city, a mother and her eight-year-old daughter are starving. They survive by staying dead silent, terrified of the soldiers patrolling the streets above them.
DIRECTOR BIOGRAPHY - Ahmad Alameldeen
Ahmad Alameldeen is an Egyptian-Italian filmmaker and former humanitarian aid professional whose filmmaking is deeply informed by more than a decade of experience working in war and disaster zones across the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia. His work focuses on people affected by conflict, displacement, human rights violations, and social injustice, seeking to bring overlooked stories to the screen and encourage empathy and social awareness. Alameldeen works across animation, fiction, and documentary storytelling. His animated short No (2025), which he wrote, directed, and produced, received numerous awards on the international festival circuit. His 2026 animated short Safe Zone draws directly on the realities of humanitarian work in conflict zones. Set beneath a besieged city, the film follows a mother and her young daughter as a desperate attempt to obtain food exposes them to a hidden sniper. Through stark black-and-white imagery and minimal dialogue, Alameldeen transforms a war-time reality into an intense story of survival and human resilience.
