DIRECTOR BIOGRAPHY - Xinyue Dang

Xinyue Dang is a Chinese filmmaker based in London. Her work grows out of a deep fascination with the quiet, easily overlooked corners of daily life, moments where emotions are fragile, tentative, and often wordless. She gravitates toward restrained storytelling, allowing small gestures, pauses, and understated humour to reveal how people negotiate solitude and connection. Before Say Something, she created three early short films developed as private experiments that shaped her understanding of cinematic rhythm and the emotional weight of an image. These early works became the groundwork for her emerging voice. Say Something marks a turning point in her practice: a move toward deepening her ongoing exploration of intimacy and rhythm, bringing her restrained aesthetic into a sustained narrative frame without sacrificing subtlety. Through the film, she continues to explore how individuals reorient themselves when familiar ways of seeing and hearing the world fall away.
