Winter Fireflies

In the center of this story is an old man on last days of his life. His memories goes back years ago, when he acted with three friends in his “Bar Café”, placed in an isolated valley in North Albania. The tension and the conflict between them raises when a young woman starts working in the bar. The older of the group, ‘Blade’ looks Afina as a money source. On the other side the relation Afina-Jackal is developing. Afina and Jackal, left outside of the society try to support each other. The conflict between Afine-Jackal and the criminal group reaches its culmination when Afina is raped from three friends of Jackal. At this point Jackal decides to end this nightmare between the group.They love each other, but when an argument erupts between them, Afina disappears.

DIRECTOR BIOGRAPHY​ - Artur Gorishti

Artur Gorishti is an artist and filmmaker. Born in Albania, he first gained acclaim as an actor. His performance at age 21 in the film Dora e Ngrohte (1983) earned him the national film award for Best Actor. Three decades of work with Albania’s most influential directors followed, including starring roles In Slogans (2001 - New Talent Award, Cannes) and Father and Godfather (2007 – Special Mention, Med Film Fest). Since 2006, Gorishti has continued his career on North American screens, with roles in Canadian features such as Suzie (2007)and Diego Star (2013), as well as Canadian and American televisions series, most recently The Fixer(2014). In the 1990s, Gorishti also established himself as a photographer with images that blur the boundaries between film andphotography. Albania’s National Gallery of Arts awarded him its first photography award in 1998. He has exhibited in solo and group shows in Europe and North America, and was featured in open 2003 arte & cinema in Venice. In 2013, Gorishti published a collection of short stories, Dyert(“Doors”). He went on to write and direct his first short film Breath(2015)), based on one of the Doors stories and his second short The Trap(2016). Gorishti is currently developing a second story from the collection into a screenplay for the dramatic feature Fireflies.
