Swarm

A secluded island somewhere on a seas of the Northern Europe. A family of four lives here for over 10 years, perfecting an art of survival. They moved onto an island to escape falling civilization, to live in freedom, close to nature. The problem arises when a Mother becomes pregnant again. Her last childbirth was traumatic - she barely made it, but lost a child. Moreover, the Winter is coming. It seems that the only solution is in leaving an island, but this meets with a stern dissent of her Partner, who sees the place as the only safe haven on earth. Also their adolescent Son, who grows into competing with Father, is trying to take his own decisions..

DIRECTOR BIOGRAPHY - Bartek Bala

He received two diplomas cum laude for his video arts, made as part of his undergraduate studies at the Studio of professor Kai Renkas, and later on during his graduate studies at the Studio of professor Sebastian Kubica. After his graduation, he joined Tomasz Koclęga’s sculpture stu- dio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice, as an assis- tant. He represented Poland three times at the International Sculpture Festival in China, where the Polish team led by Tomasz Koclęga won the Best Creativity Awards. His short films “Pod poziomem morza” [“Under the Sea Level”], “Pod powiekami” [“Under the eyelids”], “Paloma”, “Powiązane” [„Related”] or “Rodzeństwo” [“Siblings”] were screened at festivals and in art galleries, and gar- nered several awards in Poland and abroad. He authored music videos, commercials and film spots; his spot for the Legal Culture Foundation was awarded at the 41st Polish Feature Films Festival in Gdynia. At the RegioFun Interna- tional Film Festival, he received the Producers’ Distinction for the best pitching of “SWARM” film project, now in the distri- bution phase. “SWARM” is his full-length feature debut. As a creative producer, he develops feature and documentary projects at HOLE Films, while also working on his next fea- ture films under the working titles “Suka” [“The Bitch”] and “Córy” [“Daughters”]. He is the co-founder of HOLE Films and Film Incubator Foundation.
