On the warmest day of the year, two boys meet. A few hours later a pigeon gets trapped with them. During this heatwave, all creatures dream of escaping from the city that's burning.
DIRECTOR BIOGRAPHY - Stavros Markoulakis
Born in Chania in '94, Stavros Markoulakis is a writer,director, and film curator (Locarno Industry Academy & Sarajevo Talents Alumnus). He studied Communication and Dramatic Arts in Athens and completed the postgraduate program "Preservation and Presentation of the Moving Image" in Amsterdam. He has worked in various positions in the Programme Department of international film festivals, such as IFFR, Leiden Shorts, Thessaloniki FF, etc. His films, balancing between the real and the imaginary, aim to research the state of belonging, the different ways of perceiving time and reality, as well as the human relationships and non-human connections in our universe. His sophomore film, "Pigeons are Dying, when the City is on Fire" (2023), a poetic tale of urban love and cosmic fire, premiered at the Sarajevo Film Festival (2023). He is currently developing his debut feature film, Sunbruise, a boy-meets-boy folklore tragedy under the fiery summery sun.
